Poland shows interests in mining investment in Laos

(KPL) Poland government has shown an interest in investment opportunities in mining sector in the Lao PDR. The statement was made by Assistance Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Mr. Pawel Wojciechoski during his meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, Mr. Phongsavath Boupha, on 10 March, Vientiane. Mr. Pawel told the Lao minister that he would mobilize Poland investors to come to seek investment opportunities in Laos.

Japan further grants for UXOs clearance in Pek district

(KPL) The Government of Japan has decided to provide US$900,804 grant aid for the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS), a Japanese NGO, to implement the project of clearing unexploded ordnances (UXO) in Pek and other seven districts (phase 2) under the grant aid assistance scheme for Japanese NGOs projects.

Asean customs declaration document to implement by the end this year

(KPL) The Customs Department, Ministry of Finance, held a workshop to evaluate preparation for the implementation of Asean customs declaration document by the end of this year. The workshop was held in Vientiane on Wednesday with more than 100 representatives of export and import firms from the government and private sector attending the event.

Mitr Phol Sugar Company donates 10 million kip for new City Pillar Shrine construction

(KPL) The Mitrpol Sugar Company ( Laos) has presented 10 million kip to Minister of Information and Culture Mr. Mounkeo Oraboune to contribute to financing the construction of new City Pillar Shrine, which is going on in Ban Phiavath, Sisattanark district. The handover of the donation package is held on March 9, 2010 at the National Cultural Hall in Vientiane.

Prime Minister receives German delegation

(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, received here on March 9, a courtesy visit of a delegation from the Friendship Association of Germany, led by its leader, Mr Ludwig Neuber. Vice Prime Minister pays working visit to Bokeo

(KPL) Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad paid a working visit to Bokeo province, specifically to inspect ongoing construction projects. Mr Amphone Chanthasomboune, Vice-Governor of Bokeo province, delivered a report to the Standing Deputy Prime Minister about the construction projects of hotels, guest houses, casino, Mekong River embankment construction project and road construction project from Nam Keng to Mom village.

Pakse Airport to reopen in two months

(KPL) Champassak re-improves its Pakse airport and hopes it will be ready for use in May, according to an official. Head of the Civil Aviation Department, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Yakoua Lorpangkao, said that the improvement of Pakse Airport began in March 2008 and would take 20 months.

Private investment in mother-and-child healthcare service

(KPL) The Sengphachanh Company Limited has invested 32.6 billion kip (USD3.8 million) in developing a mother-and-child hospital in Vientiane Capital. The construction of the five-storey 120-bed building is being carried out in Viengchaleun village, Saysettha district. The multibillion-kip construction project is scheduled to be over in 2012.

Deputy Culture Minister goes to Bokeo to develop tourist attractions

(KPL) Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Mr. Boua-ngeun Saphouvong and his delegation paid a working visit to Bokeo province last week. His visit to this northern province took him to an old village, Donsavan, Tonpheung district, Bokeo province to see a big stupa, emerging from the Mekong river after the recession of the water level.

30th anniversary of Lao women’s newspaper marked

(KPL) The Lao Women’s Union on Tuesday marked the 30th founding anniversary of the Lao women’s newspaper. The Lao women’s newspaper is a voice of Lao women and a representative of the Lao Women’s Union, which was established on 8 March 1980s with the aim of disseminating the Party’s policy, socio-economic development plan of the state, the resolution of Lao women and promotion of fine traditional culture of the nation.

Vietnam continues to invest in Laos

(KPL) Vietnam will continue to pour investment into Laos, President of the Business and Investment Cooperation Association Hoang Cung Thien Nhan has said. Speaking at the sixth Lao Business Forum (LBF), which was held recently in Vientiane, Nhan also called on the Lao government to create favourable conditions for the development of cross-border trade and the building of border economic zones.

Science and technology officials upgrade knowledge on biotechnology safety

(KPL) Sixty-eight representatives of Science and Technology services across the country attended a workshop on biotechnology safety, held in Vientiane province on March 3. Held by the National Science and Technology Organisation, the workshop was supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
